Apple Mac Mini Is 4 Years Old Now! Mac Mini 2018 Might Come This October With New Processor Variants
One of the long-awaited Apple devices is the Mac mini 2 Pro. This year, reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech company will be releasing an updated Mac mini.
It’s Been A Long Wait
The last time Apple launched a Mac mini was way back on 16 October 2014 with an introductory price of $499 USD. So yeah, tech enthusiasts have been waiting for 4 years now.
Just this year alone, there have been a number of reports saying that a Mac mini 2 is coming this year – presumably in October. Even well-known analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Apple scoopster Mark Gurman both expect that there will be one this year.
According to Kuo, the said device will come with a processor upgrade. Meanwhile, Gurman claims that it will receive a “professional-focused upgrade” with new storage and processor options which in return will make it more expensive than previous models.
There’s even this rumor that was reported last April of 2017 suggesting that the Mac mini 2 “won’t be so mini anymore”. Thanks to this, it led tech enthusiasts to speculate that the next model could feature a larger/taller chassis in order to accommodate for more powerful hardware.
So When Exactly Is Apple’s October Event?
Assuming that the Cupertino-based tech company will launch an event this month, it’s expected to be in the 3rd or 4th week of this month. This is based on previous October events hosted by the company over the years (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016). But so far the company hasn’t sent out any press invites yet.
However, a recent report by Macrumors speculates that the most likely date for an October event at this point is Tuesday, October 30. And on the event, the Cupertino-based tech company is also expected to launch the iPad Pro 3, updated iMac models, and an all-new MacBook or MacBook Air.
How Much Will It Cost Then?
Regarding its price tag, it’s hard to say how much the 2018 Mac mini Pro will cost – this is, of course, assuming that Gurman’s claims are correct. For now, all we can do is look at the price tags of the currently available models (2014 version) which came in with three price tags:
Firstly, we have the cheapest model which starts at $499. It’s packed with a 1.4GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 (i5-4260U) and an Intel HD Graphics 5000 processor. It features 4GB of RAM and 500GB storage.
The second model which starts at $699 is armed with a 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 (i5-4278U) and an Intel Iris Graphics 5100 processor. It features 8GB of RAM and 1TB storage.
The most expensive model which starts at $999 comes with a 2.8GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 (i5-4308U) and an Intel Iris Graphics 5100 processor. It sports 8GB of RAM and 1 TB storage.
There’s also a “Pro” variant – dubbed as Mac mini Pro by some reports. However, it’s unclear whether it will serve as the 3rd variant or a separate model.
