Apple iPad Pro 3: Release Date, Price, Specs and Features Rumors
So Apple released an iPad 9.7-inch last March which was welcomed by tech enthusiasts. However, where is iPad Pro 3 (aka iPad Pro 2018)? Will it be released this year? Does it even exist? If yes, what are its specs and features?
Well, let’s review the rumors and speculations about it, shall we? Let’s start.
But First… How Many Variants Are There?
Last year, there were two variants released; 10.5 inches and 12.9 inches. With this, reports are suggesting that this year will be the same.
The Release Date
It was initially expected to be announced and released back in June just like the 2017 models. However, as you may already know, there was no sign of it.
Right now, reports are suggesting that iPad Pro 3 will be coming in the “second half of 2018” as this was predicted by well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In case you’re still in doubt that it won’t be released, well, back in early July, regulatory filings were spotted claiming that five new iPad models are in the works and will be released this September.
The Price Tag
The 2017 64 GB 10.5-inch version with WiFi starts at $649, while the 12.9-inch starts at $799. With this, it’s expected that iPad Pro 2018 will come close to these prices.
Home Button and Other Features
Last October, Kuo predicted that iPad Pro 3 or iPad Pro 2018 will feature TrueDepth Camera for Animoji and Face ID. The following month, Bloomberg reported that “at least one” of the variants will ditch the Home button and go for an edge-to-edge screen, replacing Touch ID with Face ID. Lastly, last month, developer Steven Troughton-Smith tweeted that the AvartarKit in iOS 12 will come to iPad and it requires a TrueDepth camera in order to do face tracking.
Aside from the already mentioned “edge-to-edge screen”, there are other rumors as well. One is again from Kuo to which he predicted that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro version will instead feature an 11-inch display. As for the larger variant, it will still sport the same size, but the bezels will be reduced.
The other rumor is that it will have a second display – this is all thanks to a patent spotted back in February which was for MacBooks or second-generation iPad Pros. On the patent, a figure was shown where two screens are being held by a hinge. One display acts as the main screen, while the second acts as the keyboard.
However, please take note that when it comes to patents, it takes years before it will be implemented due to various reasons so be sure to take it with a pinch of salt. In fact, some may not even get to see the light of day.
The 2017 models came with an A10X Fusion chip onboard which is a modified version of the A10 Fusion found on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. With this, we’re expecting that this year’s iPad Pro 3 models will come with the A11X Bionic chip which is a modified version of the A11 Bionic chip that can be found on the iPhone 8 and X.
