Is It Really Coming This Year?
Back in August, we reported that the AirPods 2 is rumored to be unveiled or mentioned on Apple’s September iPhone event. On that event, although Apple didn’t mention or unveiled the earpiece, it’s “Hey Siri” feature was featured on the opening film.
We also mentioned on our article that the AirPods 2 is rumored to be released in 2019. While others say it will be late August, others also speculated that it could be in March. In addition to that, its wireless charging case is expected to be available as early as late September.
Fast forward to the present, this time around, reports are suggesting that the AirPods 2 will be released this year. This is all thanks to the “clues” spotted online.
Last week, CNET quoted a report from MySmartPrice saying that the next-gen of AirPods have passed through the mandatory BlueTooth SIG certifications with the model numbers A2031 and A2032. Furthermore, Apple has renewed trademark filings in Hong Kong and Europe.
This in return made reports suggest a possible imminent launch. It’s also important to take note that the first-gen AirPods was released on December 13, 2016 (online) and December 20, 2016 (in-store). With this, it comes to no surprise why reports are suggesting it could be released in late 2018.
What Are Its Expected Specs/Features?
Based on the report of MySmartPrice, the trademark filings from Hong Kong and Europe indicate that the Cupertino-based tech company is updating the AirPods classifications to specifically include aspects like ‘wellness sensors’ and more.
“CLASS 10: GENERAL WELLNESS INSTRUMENTS, NAMELY, HEALTH, FITNESS, EXERCISE, AND WELLNESS SENSORS, MONITORS, SPEAKERS AND DISPLAYS FOR MEASURING, DISPLAYING, TRACKING, REPORTING, MONITORING, STORING, AND TRANSMITTING BIOMETRIC DATA, HEART RATE, BODY MOVEMENT, AND CALORIES BURNED.”
