Alleged Oppo R19's Latest Patent Reveals OnePlus 7 Design?
Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company, Oppo, recently filed two patents with the title “Mobile phone with app icon interface” which is a punch-hole display at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). With this, tech enthusiasts are wondering if this could be the Oppo R19’s design. In addition to that, it also left them wondering if this could be the OnePlus 7’s design as well, considering the relationship between the two companies.
Oppo and OnePlus’ Relationship
It’s hard to describe Oppo and OnePlus’ relationship without getting lost in the details, like whether OnePlus is technically a subsidiary of Oppo or not despite OnePlus officials denying that they are not. To make it simple, aside from being Chinese companies, let’s just say they are sister companies.
The Oppo Patents
According to a report, LetsGoDigital uncovered the design patents. The patents filed by Oppo describe how the company will be camouflaging the punch-hole front camera.
To achieve such effect, the patent shows that Oppo will display a camera app on the area around the punch-hole which will be visible all the time effectively hiding the real lens inside the app which is a clever way to hide it. Moreover, the report also noted that a swipe on the camera will reveal more apps and it will be sort of a quick access tray for applications.
As for its other features, at the back, it features a horizontal dual-camera setup with LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. At the bottom edge of the phone, it features a 3.5mm audio jack, charging port, and external speaker.
Is This Perhaps The Oppo R19?
There’s an Oppo device called Oppo R19 that’s expected to launch this year. According to 91Mobiles, it is rumored to be released on February 19, 2018, with an estimated price of Rs 26,990 which roughly translates to $379.
However, if you look at its rumored front designs, there are a few differences.
GizmoChina noted on their report that there a recent report revealed that the company may use a notch-less screen like the OPPO Find X for the Oppo R19. Moreover, it is also rumored to feature a pop-up selfie camera and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
But if you go at 91Mobiles’ page for the Oppo R19, it features photo the device with a punch-hole display. The difference, however, is the location of the punch-hole.
Could This Be The OnePlus 7?
Let’s assume that the patents filed were the designs for the Oppo R19. With that, we can also assume that OnePlus could offer the same design for the OnePlus 7 as well.
How so? Well, one of the “controversies” that tech enthusiasts like to debate about is the similar designs between the Oppo and OnePlus phones. Although both are considered as “sister companies”, fans can’t help but ask: Who is copying who? Was it just a coincidence? Are the teams working together on phones at the same time or working off each other’s notes for ideas?
The folks over at AndroidAuthority published a smartphone design comparison between the two companies. Just to name a few, we have:
- Oppo A30 vs OnePlus X
- Oppo R9 Plus vs OnePlus 3/3T
- Oppo R15 vs OnePlus 6
- Oppo R17 vs OnePlus 6T
What can you say about the patent design? Do you like it? What are the chances that the Oppo R19 will have? If it will, do you think the OnePlus 7 will have it as well? Tell us in the comment section below.
