If you liked Venom (2018) and wished that it had a sequel, rejoice, your wish has been granted! According to fresh media reports, a sequel to the much-loved film is in the works at Sony Pictures. Venom was one of the most successful films of 2018, which left many other superhero movies far behind in terms of box-office earnings in the year gone by. So, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that the makers have decided to develop the movie into a franchise which, if all goes well, might see many sequels in times to come. After all, who does not want to make more money?

If reports are to be believed, Kelly Marcel, one of the screenwriters on the first movie, has been signed on to start work on the sequel to the film. It will be a follow-up to showcase actor Tom Hardy and his shape-shifting CG alien symbiote. The movie is being bankrolled by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal. Ruben Fleischer will return to helm the project. Tom Hardy also returns as the lobster-diving Eddie Brock and the voice of his symbiotic alien pal Venom, as will Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. The film will feature a series of characters from Marvel Comics. If all goes well, you can feast your eyes on Venom 2 in October 2020. If you could clearly remember, it happens to be the same date which Sony locked in for an Untitled Marvel Sequel back in November.

As mentioned earlier, Venom was one of the highest grossing superhero movies in 2018. It racked up $80.2 million in its opening weekend despite getting mostly bad reviews from critics. But thanks to the never-seen-before visuals and great CGI work, the movie put up an excellent show not only on its home turf but internationally also. Sony has decided to drop no comment on Venom 2, its script or any release date.
