5 Biggest Smartphone Releases This Year (2017)

We are now in the last month of the year 2017 and it is the best time for some wrap-ups. Before moving forward to 2018, here are some biggest flagship releases this year.

Apple iPhone X

One of the principal smartphones was launched this year was the Apple’s tenth-anniversary iPhone, the iPhone X. This handset comes in two storage variants -64GB and 256GB. The former is tagged at Rs 89,000 and the latter is priced at Rs 102,000. This makes it the first iPhone in India to cross the Rs 1 lakh mark.

The iPhone X is the first-ever iPhone to feature an OLED display with Dolby Vision, HDR10 support, and FaceID feature. This handset from the Cupertino-based tech company sports a Super Retina edge-to-edge 5.8-inch display with 2436 x 1125 pixels resolution.

This gadget has an all-glass body and it flaunts a dual 12MP rear camera with dual optical image stabilization. It has a f/1.8 aperture on the wide-angle camera and a f/2.4 aperture on the telephoto camera. The iPhone X is armed with 7MP front-facing shooter that is good for selfies and video calling.

Under the chassis, the iPhone X is engineered by Apple’s all-new new A11 Bionic chipset with six-core CPU design. The color selections of the smartphone are Space Gray and Silver.

Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

Unveiled along with the iPhone X, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is equipped with the same 10nm A11 Bionic chipset with a 6-core processor. These smartphones also come in two storage option – 64GB and 256GB. The 64GB iPhone 8 variant is tagged at Rs 64,000, while 256GB variant is priced Rs 73,000. As for the iPhone 8 Plus, the 64GB has a price tag of Rs 77,000 and the 256GB version is sold at Rs 86,000.

These phones arrived with improved camera software that lets users take better portrait shots. While the iPhone 8 boasts a single 12MP rear camera, the iPhone 8 Plus features dual 12MP rear cameras. The primary rear snapper has f/1.8 aperture while the secondary telephoto camera is furnished with f/2.8 aperture.

The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch Retina HD screen, while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with 5.5-inch Retina HD screen. Lastly, both of these gadgets has wireless charging technology.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were unveiled featuring the company’s home-grown Bixby digital assistant. Other high spots of the smartphones include bezel-less ‘Infinity’ Display, iris scanner that also has facial recognition functionality. These handsets recently obtained price cuts in India and are now available at Rs 53,900, while the Galaxy S8+ now tagged at Rs 58,900. Meanwhile, the 64GB variant of the aforementioned phones was launched at Rs 57,900 and Rs 64,900, but as of the moment of writing both received a price slash of Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively.

The devices from Samsung are engineered by an octa-core Exynos Series 9 processor and is coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. Both the phones have the same camera specs -12MP dual-pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS positioned on the back and 8MP autofocus snapper with a f/1.7 aperture located at the front.

Samsung Galaxy S8 features as a 5.8-inch QuadHD+ with (2960×1440) display and 570ppi pixel density. The Galaxy S8+ boasts a bigger 6.2-inch QuadHD+ with (2960×1440) display and 529ppi pixel density. The former is powered by a 3,000mAh battery while the latter has 3,500mAH capacity battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Another big phone that was launched of the year is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This handset is the first smartphone from the company to sport a dual-rear camera setup. The rear snapper is comprised of two 12MP sensors, while the first one is a wide angled lens with a f/1.7 aperture; the secondary shooter includes a telephoto zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. On the front of this gadget, there is an 8MP selfie shooter with f/1.7 aperture.

This phablet is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS and it has a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ (2960×1440 pixels) Super AMOLED ‘Infinity’ display. The device fortified by Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage Lastly, it is tagged at Rs 67,900.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL come in two storage choices. The Pixel 2 is obtainable at Rs 61,000 and Rs 70,000 for the 64GB and 128GB storage variants correspondingly. On the other hand, the Pixel 2 XL costs Rs 73,000 for 64GB variant and Rs 82,000 for the 128GB storage models.

Both of these gadgets run on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and Google ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, these phones are IP67 rated which makes them dust and water resistant as well. The handsets also flaunt an ‘Active Edge’ feature that allows users to squeeze the sides of the handset to initiate Google Assistant.

The Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are engineered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB LPDDR4X RAM. Both have a 12.2MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture together with an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.4 aperture. The Google Pixel 2 sports a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) AMOLED 2.5D display and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is powered by 2700mAh battery. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 2 XL has a 6-inch QHD+ (2880×1440 pixels) P-OLED display coupled with 18:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 538ppi. It is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating and is packed with 3520mAh battery.
