2019 Surface Pro 5 Carmel: Release Date, Price, Rumors and What Fans Want To See

12:40 PM

Although there was a new Surface Pro released last 2017 which came out after the Surface Pro 4 two years later, that version wasn’t really the “Surface Pro 5” – according to a report. In fact, the “true successor” has still yet to come.

When Is It Coming?

Apparently, there’s a “heavily redesigned” Surface Pro 5 that’s codenamed as “Carmel”. It is set to come in the mid-2019.

How Much Will It Cost?

In regards to Surface Pro 5 price tag, as of now, all we can do is cite the price of the 2017 version which costs $799 in the US or £799 in the UK for its entry level. Some reports suggest it will cost higher.

The Processor

With the announcement of Intel’s Coffee Lake U-series CPUs last April, the said device could come with this chip series. However, there’s also another possibility that Surface Pro 5 could be packed with the rumored Whiskey Lake processors instead.

The Surface Pen

Last February, a patent filed by Microsoft. On the patent, it features a haptic feedback system for the Surface Pen, which in return will make drawing on the screen a much more tactile experience.

What Fans Want To See

Of course, just like any other upcoming device that has a predecessor, there will be a few improvements or tweaks that fans would like to see on the successor. But for the Surface Pro 5, there are specifically two things.

First is the battery. For the 2017 model, Microsoft claims that it can bring up to 13.5 hours of battery life which is really cool. But when tested on how long it can last in video playback, it only lasted 6 hours and 58 minutes. Hopefully, the successor could last longer.

Second is the screen. The currently available version features a 12.3-inch screen with a screen resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels. What fans would like to see on the rumored upcoming device is that it will feature at least 4K and a bigger screen.

What do you think? Is Surface Pro 5 really coming next year? Also, do you agree with the fan expectations? Tell us by writing in the comment section below.
