With the 2019 Mac Pro confirmed to be a 2019 device and expected to be presented next month at WWDC 2019, it has became one of the hot topics for many tech enthusiasts, especially Apple fans.

For this article, we will be talking about a supposed leak of the 2019 Mac Pro.

The Leak

According to a report, a supposed internal Apple document for the 2019 Mac Pro was spotted which reveals the design and specs of the said device.

On the top left corner of the photo, we can see that the device is referred to as Mac Pro 7.1″ and below it reads “Phoenix”. Meanwhile, on the top right corner, it reads “Apple Internal”.

On the bottom left of the corner, we can see that the Author’s name is blurred out. We can also see at the document was last modified on November 7, 2018.

As for the specs and features:

  • Intel Xeon W Cascade Lake-X
  • Apple T2 security chip
  • Apple X2 accelerator
  • DDR5 SO-DIMM memory
  • 3x double-wide PCIe 4 slots
  • Single or dual AMD Firepro-X
  • Nvidia Quadro/RTX BTO
  • 8x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for: Display port 1.4a, Thunderbolt 4, and USB 3.1 Gen 2
  • 2x HDMI 2.1 port
  • 10Gb ethernet
  • Bluetooth 5.1 wireless

So Is The Leak Legit?

Some people have doubts regarding the authenticity of the document and have pointed out some issues. Given the nature of leaks and rumors, it’s normal that some will do.

So what are the issues pointed out by people?

The first issue pointed out is the “Thunderbolt 4” which has yet to be released or announced.

However, a report published back in March 2019 suggests that Thunderbolt 4 could be just around the corner because of the growing popularity of eGPUs.

The report also stated that the other reason for all the Thunderbolt 4 speculation is that Apple has been teasing a new Mac Pro 2019 for some time now and we have been told to expect a major revamp. With this, it seems to be like Apple is hinting that the new Mac Pro will be their first device to feature the new technology.

The second issue is the incorrect branding on the AMD FirePro GPU.

The third issue is Apple’s culture of secrecy. Until the Cupertino-based tech company officially reveals its products, it’s best to take every rumor and leak with a pinch of salt.

So When Is The New Mac Pro Coming?

The new Mac Pro has been confirmed to be a 2019 product, but what month it will be announced and released is still a mystery.

If Apple will follow the release date of the 2013 Mac Pro, then we will likely see it being announced in June 2019 and then released in December 2019.

If that doesn’t happen, then we will likely see it this October 2019, because Apple usually holds 3-4 events annually: March, June, September, and October.

Regarding the October event, Apple will hold an October event if there are iPads or Macs expected in the fall.
