2019 iPhone: Latest Report Claim iPhone XI Will Feature 3D Cameras
A few days ago, we reported about that 2019 iPhones will feature a notch design, while the 2020 iPhones will feature a hole-punch display. This time around, there’s a new scoop about what to expect for the iPhone XI (aka iPhone 11).
2019 iPhones Coming With 3D Camera Technology
According to Forbes, the Cupertino-based tech company is working with Sony to integrate 3D cameras into its next-generation iPhones. With this type of technology onboard, it could potentially transform photography, security, and gaming. Furthermore, this scoop came from Sony itself during an interview with Bloomberg.
Sony Boosts Production Of Next-Generation 3D Sensors
According to Bloomberg, Sony is boosting production of next-generation 3D sensors after getting interest from customers. It will be ready by 2019 with the company “kicking off mass production in late summer to meet demand”. Head of Sony’s sensor division Satoshi Yoshihara had this to say:
“Cameras revolutionized phones, and based on what I’ve seen, I have the same expectation for 3D,” and added, “The pace will vary by field, but we’re definitely going to see adoption of 3D. I’m certain of it.”
Moreover, Sony controls about half of the camera chip market and supplies customers which include Apple and Samsung. In fact, Huawei is also reportedly employing Sony’s 3D cameras in next-generation models – one of the known handsets is codenamed “Princeton” which comes with a new feature called “3D Camera”.
With this, we can expect definitely expect future smartphones packed with this next-generation 3D sensors.
On the interview, Sony showed several samples of using a custom phone with a 3D camera on its rear. On one of their demonstrations, there had this app that requires users to do specific hand gestures to cast magic spells inside a virtual game.
So When Can We Expect The 2019 iPhone?
Just like last year and the previous years before that, we are expecting Apple to launch the new iPhones in September. But hey, who knows, maybe the Cupertino-based tech company could decide to switch things up a bit.
