Future Macs Could Feature AMD Radeon VII Graphics Card
Not long ago, American multi-national semiconductor company AMD unveiled its next flagship graphics card, the Radeon VII (or Radeon 7). This GPU could likely appear in future pro Macs.
AMD’s Next Flagship Graphics Card
According to reports, during CES 2019 (held from January 8 to 11), AMD unveiled the Radeon VII graphics card. It is said to offer 25 percent faster performance than earlier Vega cards found in the iMac Pro and is designed to combat NVIDIA’s RTX 2080 graphics card. Furthermore, it is touted as the world’s first 7-nanometer gaming GPU which is pleasing to hear, especially for gamers.
In fact, the company even presented a preview of Capcom’s upcoming action game Devil May Cry 5 (set to be released in March 2019) using the Radeon VII. It ran in 4K resolution with framerates over 100 frames per second.
What Are Its Specifications?
Aside from its 7nm process, the Radeon VII comes with 3840 stream processors, 16GB memory, and 1 TB/s memory bandwith. Furthermore, it also features AMD’s FreeSync2 HDR technology.
Pricing And Availability
The Radeon VII is set to feature a price tag of $699. Its shipping date is scheduled next month, February 7, 2019.
Will It Be Featured In Future Macs?
Apparently so. According to AppleInsider, the chances of it appearing on future Macs seem likely because Apple is a regular customer of AMD. The news outlet suggests that the Cupertino-based tech company will presumably want to use some version of the card in future iMac Pro 2019 configurations and the long-awaited secretive successor of the 2013 Mac Pro.
Regarding the Mac Pro, based on previous reports, a new version is expected to launch sometime in 2019 and will the Apple’s first modular computer in years. In fact, the release date has been confirmed by Apple’s senior director of Mac hardware product marketing Tom Boger last year telling Tech Crunch:
“We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year.“
