Padmavati Row: Everything You Should Know
Padmavati row seems to be getting bigger with each passing day. A Rajput community, Karni Sena, has been objecting to this movie for more than a month. This community belongs to the western part of the state of Rajasthan and has issued a life-endangering threat to film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and for lead actress Deepika Padukone.
They have warned to chop the nose of the actress recently and behead the director if the movie sees release. While both the director and the actress has been provided with security by the police department in Mumbai.
Since last month, the Bollywood film Padvamati garnered major attention due to controversies related to depiction portrayal of the perceived romantic relation between Mughal invader Alauddin Khilji and Queen Padmavati. In addition to this, Bhansali has been under constant fire from the protesting community regarding alleged scenes of romance between the queen and Khilji.
To this allegations, Bhansali has come out with a video, saying that he and the cast & crew of the film have taken extra care about the portrayal of Rani Padmini’s character. They have further strengthened their standby sharing the video on social media and claiming that due respect has been given to Padmavati’s character in the movie, played by actress Deepika Padukone. While film’s lead actress has shown strong stand against the protestors by saying that the incidents of violence and protests are appalling. As these protests show country’s regressive outlook.
However, it seems that the chiefs of Karni Sena do not seem to take this explanation and are already indulging in the vandalism of cinema halls in Rajasthan. To this, the state government has chosen to be silent till now. There is no action or reaction from the government machinery while the vandals from the community are continuing their protests in Rajasthan.
Karni Sena has called for a Bharat bandh on 1 Dec in an attempt to stir the controversy further. Also asking for a nationwide ban on the Padmavati. Protestors staged protests at Chittorgarh Fort and attempting to prevent tourists from entering the spot.
Meanwhile, the film fraternity has come out in support of the movie. Leading actors and directors from Bollywood have asked people to not curb the creative freedom of the directors. Actors like Prakash Rah, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Javed Akhtar are echoing thoughts of creative freedom.
Yet again a man has to justify creativity because politics & propaganda creates an ugly environment. He’s a fantastic filmmaker his vision must be trusted. I’m sure Rani Padmavati & her story will be depicted with respect by him & @RanveerOfficial @deepikapadukone @shahidkapoor https://t.co/o8qCu7Rfe6

The country looks divided in their opinion. While some are justifying the ban on the movie and calling the director as traitor and violator of India’s culture and traditions. There are many people who are supporting the release of the movie Padmavati since it captures the sheer panoramic view and happenings of a major historical event of Indian history.
The bone of contention lies between the perceived ideas that it is based on Mohammad Akmal Jaisi’s poem “Padmavati”. However, the story presented by the director has been drawn on the different lines. On a concluding note, the clouds of this controversy will loom large until the movie is released in theaters.
