Microsoft Surface Phone Update: New Leaks Propose Release Of Foldable Smartphone
The Redmond-based tech giant already confirmed that the Windows Phone flat form is gone. As a matter of fact, Microsoft has removed the smartphone hardware after the release of Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. However, there are some speculations that Microsoft Surface Phone will be launched in a form of a foldable device.
Foldable Surface Phone
According to Phone Arena, there were speculations that Microsoft is planning another premium smartphone. The device which is dubbed as Surface Phone may or may not turn out to be accurate.
Based on the assumptions roaming around the rumor mill, the Microsoft Surface Phone is a foldable handset. It can be converted into a tablet when “opened”, which is similar to the ZTE Axon M.
Surface Phone Rumored Patents
One of the major reasons why the speculations about the Surface Phone are still live is because of the new patents surfacing online. These documents are suggesting what might be the foldable device’s features.
There were patents that outline a couple of dissimilar ways that a camera might function with one such phone. One of the patents shows that the camera lens is on one of the device’s half, while the imaging module can be seen on the other one. Both of them are attached to each other through a magnetic connection when the gadget “closes” to go from tablet mode to phone mode.
The second patent explicates how the camera’s secondary module would be covered by a mechanical flap every time the alleged Surface Phone is in an “open” mode. Nevertheless, the module’s internals is not shown.
Surface Phone Rumored Processor
Furthermore, Gadgets Now has learned that Microsoft job listing has also pointed out in the detail that the American tech giant may include Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor in its forthcoming phone. This was specified in a job posting by ABAL Technologies, which is an HR provider with Microsoft. Based on the post they are searching for those with testing experience on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 845 processor. Moreover, the said listing is the test engineer/manufacturing engineer. The post also shows Xbox/smartphones as some of the gadgets that will be presented for tests.
Apart from that, there is also an opening for someone expert in Qualcomm and Intel chipsets. This also hints that the Redmond-based tech company has a mobile device in the store. With that, it is speculated that the prospective phone will be engineered by Andromeda. It can be recalled that the Windows 10 for phones, which also supports ARM are capable of running desktop apps.
Lastly, there is this Windows enthusiast under the username WalkingCat who allegedly spotted the references to an unidentified “Journal” app in Windows Whiteboard. There’s also a discussion about the “left page and right page”, which might mean the left and right screen parts of the foldable Surface Phone.
