Huawei Partners BOE For Making Foldable Phone That Could Launch Before Surface Phone
Almost all of us are aware that Microsoft is working on a foldable phone, which was dubbed as Surface Phone. Recently the China-based tech giant Huawei is reportedly manufacturing its own foldable device that will make its first appearance in November.
According to Korea’s ET News, there were reports stating that Huawei is working hand-in-hand with another company, which was a China-based display maker BOE in creating a foldable smartphone that features 8-inch display. There were talks suggesting that BOE is accountable for manufacturing the foldable display while Huawei will pay attention to the rest.
For some reference, BOE is China’s biggest as well as world’s prominent display manufacturer. This company is leading when it comes to LED display, surpassing the likes of LG and Samsung in the market. BOE is currently targeting to grab the market segment in next-generation OLED displays and it already started the mass-production of its bendable OLEDs.
Together with Huawei, the BOE is allegedly working with three other phone manufacturers. Though these are not yet confirmed, these smartphone makers could be Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo. While Samsung already admitted that it is working on a foldable display handset, Xiaomi and Oppo already have filed for patents of such gadgets
Previously it was reported that Huawei’s foldable display phone will flaunt an AMOLED panel with bendy display obtained from LG. On the other hand, there were reports suggesting that Samsung will be utilizing a flexible OLED screen coming from Samsung Display.
Similar to Samsung’s foldable device, the Huawei’s iteration is also anticipated to be equipped with an inward folding design. It was in 2017 when Huawei filed a patent for a smartphone with a foldable display. Based on the patent filing, when the display of the handset is folded, it can function as a smartphone and when unfolded, it can be used as a tablet.
At present, there are no details available about the specification of Huawei’s foldable smartphone. But then, as the rumored November release nears it is expected that Huawei will divulge something about its upcoming device, so stay tuned!
