God of War Director Talks About PlayStation 5 and PS4 Pro
God of War’s director shares his thoughts regarding PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5. He finds the slow and incremental approach more appealing.
PlayStation 5 Coming
It is no secret that Sony is working on a PS5 console. In fact, last year at E3, Shawn Layden of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios stated in an interview that it will definitely come and “will probably be some time.” Whereas for the PS4 Pro, John Kodera, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that the PS4 is entering the final phase of its life cycle.
Creating Games From A Developer’s Perspective
DailyStar had a chance to speak with Cory Balrog, the director of God of War (2005), God of War II and God of War (2018). When asked about his thoughts regarding PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5, the director finds the former more appealing.
According to him, the transition from PS4 to PS4 Pro makes things easier as a developer. Given that they are already familiar with the platform, they could simply push everything to the limit without having to rewrite their brains and figure everything out again. Whereas with PS3 to PS4 (an example he noted), it felt like they had to “throw everything out” and redo everything.
Balrog pointed out God of War II, which according to him, was great because they were experts on the platform. At that time, PS2 was already at the end of its lifecycle and they knew everything about its platform. In fact, he even wanted to create another game on that platform. However, given that PS2 was already at the end of its lifecycle and people were already moving on to the PS3, they simply had no choice but to move on as well.
So what do you guys think regarding Balrog’s opinion as a game developer? Does this mean he still has plans on making another God of War game in the PS4 Pro platform or is he already planning to move on to the PS5? Let us know in the comment section below.
